Great News!
Moments ago, a huge, bipartisan 2/3 majority of the House of Representatives voted and passed the USPS Fairness Act (H.R. 2382).
This important vote is the first step toward securing the Postal Service’s financial future by repealing the disastrous prefunding mandate in the 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act (PAEA).
And make no mistake – this could not have happened without you!
APWU active, retired, and auxiliary members and our community allies made over 7,570 calls to Congress. We visited our congress members’ offices and we made our voices heard.
The vote today shows the power of workers and collective action.
The PAEA’s infamous prefunding mandate forces the USPS to pay now for retiree benefits as far as 70 years into the future. Passing this legislation in the House gets us closer to the goal of ending the manufactured financial crisis. But the work doesn’t end there.
Now that the USPS Fairness Act has passed the House, we need to build support for its companion bill in the Senate, S. 2965.
Click here to participate in a national call-in day of action on Tuesday, February 25.
On February 25, APWU members, along with our allies, will flood the phones in their Senators’ offices and ask them to become a cosponsor of S. 2965.
Thousands of APWU members called in during our last call in day of action, resulting in every member of the House of Representatives being contacted and numerous Representatives signing onto the bill.
We are confident we can duplicate that success and achieve support for S. 2965, but we need your help!
Sign up to be a part of the national call-in day of action.
And when you’ve signed up, reach out to your family, friends, and neighbors and ask them to call their senators as well. By strengthening the Postal Service, if passed, this legislation will positively affect every person in this country.
In Solidarity and a big thank you for your hard work!
